An IT services firm builds its own software when the same problem keeps turning up in customer work and nothing on the market fits it well. For the customer, the useful difference is simple: the people who built the tool are the people who support it.
Most IT providers resell other companies' products. That is a perfectly good business, and it is a large part of what we do as a Microsoft partner. But after enough years working with Philippine schools, businesses and agencies, certain problems repeat so often that we stopped waiting for someone else to solve them. Two of them became products of our own.
The short answer
Building software makes sense for a services firm only when the problem is real, recurring and poorly served by what exists. It makes sense for a customer to consider such a tool only when the firm will stand behind it, explain it plainly and support it locally. If a provider cannot do those three things, the fact that they built it is not a reason to buy it.
Where the problems come from
Services work is a good place to notice patterns. When you sit with a school's faculty, or review a company's Microsoft 365 setup, you see the same friction in different buildings. Instructors checking student work by hand because the tools they were given are awkward or expensive per check. Compliance teams assembling evidence for an auditor from screenshots and spreadsheets.
Neither of these is unusual, and neither is solved by more advice. They need a tool that does the repetitive part properly, so that people can spend their time on the judgement that only they can supply.
Veritext: originality checking for schools
Veritext checks student work for originality. It is aimed at schools, colleges and universities that want instructors to see clearly what matched and decide for themselves what it means, rather than react to a percentage.
There is a live demo online that needs no sign-up. It shows the similarity report on a document you upload. It is a sample of the platform, not the whole of it, and we would rather say so than let anyone assume otherwise. A full walkthrough for your faculty, using your own documents, is available on request.
Posturis: evidence for compliance work
Posturis scans a Microsoft 365 tenant against ISO and NIST controls and turns the findings into an evidence report. It is intended for organisations that run on Microsoft 365 and need something concrete to show an auditor as part of their ISO compliance work.
Posturis is available by arrangement for now. It supports compliance work with evidence. It does not certify anyone, and no tool can promise that an audit will be passed. What it can do is replace a pile of screenshots with a report an auditor can read.
What building your own changes for the customer
When the same team builds and supports a product, several things tend to improve. None of them is automatic, so each is worth checking with any provider.
- Questions get answered by someone who knows. The person who picks up your query can discuss how the product works, not just forward a ticket.
- Fixes and changes can follow real use. Feedback from a customer in Muntinlupa or Cebu reaches the people who can act on it.
- Support is local. Same timezone, same language and no overseas queue.
- Billing is straightforward. Peso invoicing and official receipts, which matters to finance teams and to government buyers.
What to ask any provider that sells its own software
- What problem was this built to solve? A clear answer usually means a real one.
- Can we try it before we commit? A demo or a pilot on your own material says a lot.
- What does it not do? A provider that can describe the limits is more trustworthy than one that cannot.
- Who supports it, and in which timezone? Ask for a name and a response commitment.
- How do we get our data out? Ask what happens if you stop using it.
- How is it priced as we grow? Per-user and per-check pricing changes how a tool gets used.
- Who else uses it? You do not need names, but you should know it is in real use.
Frequently asked questions
Does Onprem2Cloud still resell Microsoft and other vendors' products?
Yes. We are a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider partner and continue to supply Microsoft 365, Azure and other software. Building our own tools sits alongside that work, not in place of it.
Can we try Veritext before deciding?
Yes. The live demo is open to anyone and shows the similarity report on a document you upload. If it holds up on a paper you already know, we can arrange a full walkthrough for your faculty.
Is Posturis available to anyone today?
It is live and usable by customers, by arrangement for the time being. Contact us to discuss whether it fits your Microsoft 365 environment and your compliance plans.
Does Posturis make us ISO compliant?
No tool does that on its own. Posturis produces evidence to support your compliance work. Certification itself depends on your organisation, your processes and the auditor.
Why build software at all instead of just reselling?
Because some problems recur in customer work and are poorly served by what is available. Building a tool for those is a way to solve them properly, and to support the result ourselves.
Where to start
Start with the problem, not the product. Write down the task your team repeats most often and the evidence you struggle most to produce, then see whether either of our tools is relevant.
